Site built with LyamFlow

A made-up example, in the colours of the Gazzetta template.

What a website does for an association

To give anyone looking for you a stable address. People who want to become members, volunteer, sign a child up for a course or just understand what you do search Google for the association’s name, or the activity plus the town. A social media group is hard to find, changes admin, and says little to anyone not already inside. A website stays.

There’s also credibility: foundations, local councils and sponsors look at the website before giving a grant. Purpose, committee, past activities, contacts: the same things a funding application asks for, ready to link to.

And there’s the handover. Associations change committee every few years, and the passwords change with them. A site that’s easy to update, and doesn’t depend on somebody’s computer-whizz nephew, survives every change of chair.

What to put on an association’s website

The site starts with non-profit sections — activities, projects, take part — and every text can be changed without touching code.

  • Who you are Your purpose, your history, the committee with names and roles. People who want to join want to know who they’ll be doing it with.
  • Activities and projects What you do through the year, what you’ve achieved, what’s coming up. With a few real photos of your get-togethers.
  • How to join The fee, what it covers, how to pay it, who to write to. The simpler it is, the more members you get.
  • Events Upcoming dates in an up-to-date text, and photos of past events in the gallery.
  • Frequently asked questions Do you need experience to volunteer? Can under-18s take part? The answers before anyone has to ask.
  • Take part The button that closes every page: the contact person’s email, phone or WhatsApp.

Three templates for associations

All twenty-eight templates are available, and none costs more. These three are the most natural starting points: you can switch template later without losing your text.

  • Gazzetta Like a magazine: two columns, serif headings, plenty of white space. For those with a lot to tell.
  • Spettro The association’s colour instead of boxes, in steps as you scroll down: lively and recognisable.
  • Giardino Soft greens and gentle shapes: for those working with nature, the local area, wellbeing.

Getting found by new members and volunteers

The site introduces itself to Google with the association’s name, category and town in the title. The searches that matter look like ‘volunteering Lugano’, ‘pottery class Bellinzona’, ‘swimming club Locarno’: describe your activities in those words and the results will lead to you.

Three tips:

  • call your activities by their names, even the ones that seem obvious to you;
  • put the site’s link in your email signature, on flyers and in posts;
  • ask the local councils and federations you belong to to list you with a link to the site: it’s the simplest way to get known by Google too.

Members and fees, when the notebook isn’t enough

The site is free forever, and for many associations that’s enough. If one day you also need to keep the member list, appointments, documents and fee payments in one place, LyamFlow’s management software does that: free to try for fourteen days, then it’s the Basic plan.

How it works, trade by trade: management software for your business.

Frequently asked questions

Is the site really free for an association too?

Yes, forever: one site per account, with every template and every section. The ‘Site made with LyamFlow’ signature stays at the foot of the page, and that’s the only condition.

What happens if the person running the site changes?

There’s just one piece of advice: sign up with an association mailbox (info@…), not a committee member’s personal one. That way access passes on along with the mailbox, and the site stays as it is, with all its content.

Can we collect fees through the site?

The site doesn’t take payments: it says what the fee is and how to pay it — bank details, cash at the general meeting — and puts people in touch with the contact person. It’s the simplest solution to keep in order.

Does it work for sports clubs and volunteer groups too?

Yes: when signing up you choose ‘Association’, and the site starts with non-profit wording. You write your exact kind of activity in the name and the text.

Can we have our own domain?

Yes, for CHF 9 a month plus registration. If there’s no budget, the free address — lyamflow.com/s/ followed by the association’s name — works just as well.

A stable address, even when the committee changes
