How people choose a contractor for a renovation

Carefully, and by comparing. Someone who has to redo their home asks for two or three quotes, but before that they decide who to ask — and they decide by looking at work already done, searching for the firm by name after someone has recommended it, checking that it really has been around for a few years. Today, a firm without a website loses the race before the site visit.

Word of mouth is still the main channel in construction. But word of mouth works like this: a happy client mentions your name, and whoever hears it looks it up on Google. If they find a website with your projects, the name becomes a phone call. If they find only an address on a map, it becomes a doubt.

It matters for the people who work with you too: architects, property managers, public-sector clients. A tidy website with your references is the simplest way to be taken seriously by people who don’t know you yet.

What to put on a building contractor’s website

The site comes with the sections for businesses that work to order — services, work, quote — and grows with your projects as you photograph them.

  • What you do Renovations, new builds, façades, roofs, insulation, demolition. One line per type of work, in the words the client would use.
  • Projects Before, during and after. Three photos and three lines per project — where, what, how long — beat any catalogue.
  • How you work From site visit to quote, from permits to handover. People renovating for the first time are mostly afraid of what they don’t know: explaining it to them is already half the job.
  • Who you are How many years, how many people, who runs the site. Even a photo of the team in hard hats is worth more than a sentence about professionalism.
  • Areas covered The towns and regions where you take on work, listed by name.
  • Site visit request The button that ends the page: call, email or WhatsApp, with your office address.

Three templates for building contractors

All twenty-eight templates are available, and none costs more. These three are the most natural starting points: you can switch template later without losing your text.

  • Lastra Glass, metal and raking light: made to make materials look solid, because they are.
  • Deriva Jobs slide sideways as the page scrolls down, one at a time: a portfolio of projects, not a list.
  • Attivo Direct and commercial, sharp edges and a single colour. It’s instantly clear who you are and what you do.

Getting found in local searches

“Building contractor Bellinzona”, “flat renovation Lugano”, “roof replacement Leventina”: these are searches by people who have already decided to spend. A LyamFlow site starts with a title containing name, trade and town; every project you describe with its location adds a search you can answer.

What makes the difference over time:

  • describing each project with the town and the type of work, not just with photos;
  • linking the site to the firm’s Google Business Profile and keeping it alive with new photos;
  • asking happy clients for a review once the work is handed over, while the enthusiasm is still fresh.

Projects, clients and invoices in one place

The website is free even on its own. LyamFlow’s management software for businesses that work to order adds jobs that run for days or weeks, the calendar, the price list for your work, each client’s documents and takings.

Invoices come out as PDFs with the Swiss QR-bill and go out by email. A fourteen-day trial, then the Basic plan.

How it works, trade by trade: management software for your business.

Frequently asked questions

We’ve only photographed a few projects. Should we wait?

No. The site comes with trade photos already in place, and you replace them with your own one project at a time. A site that’s online with three jobs is worth more than a perfect one that never goes live.

Can we show before-and-after photos?

Yes, in the gallery or in a section per project, with the text alongside. Always shoot from the same spot: it’s the comparison that convinces.

We also work for public bodies. Do we need a different website?

No, but it’s worth adding a section with references and certifications: that’s what a public works department will look for.

How long does it take to get it online?

Five minutes for the first published version: firm name, trade and template. Text and projects are added afterwards, with the site already live.

Can we use our own domain?

Yes: CHF 9 a month plus registration, and the site answers at your firm’s address. If you already have the domain for email, it’s connected to the site by pointing the DNS, and your email stays as it is.

Your projects deserve to be seen
